Fantasia: The Lost Symphony

In 2011 I placed 2nd in Disney’s global talent competition, ImagiNations. Mentored by a former Imagineer, Elena Page, and assisted by the talented Michael Delany, Adam Newton, and Patrick Carroll, we set out to tell the story of ‘The Lost Symphony’.

I was tasked with the role of Creative Director.

My first job was to create storyboards that not only told our story but also acted as concept art for what the experience could look like. Pulling from the original Theater setting of Fantasia and the vibrant animated worlds, I painted 40 original watercolors.

After nailing down the storyboards and concept art, we began the arduous task of turning concept into reality. Faced with 2 major restraints, Attraction Footprint and Guests Per Hour we began problem solving. In the end we landed on a Multi-Tiered Design with Trackless Vehicles that allowed multiple shows to run at once.

My next big job was to create a multilayer, laser-cut model that accurately represented the building, the queue system, and the ride experience. I modeled, laser cut, glued, and painted every aspect of this 1/64 scale model of our ride.

In the end, we were flown out to Glendale California to pitch our ride concept to the Imagineering staff. It was an incredible experience. I made lifelong friends and learned valuable lessons I’ll take with me the rest of my life.
